7 Signs Your Business Website Is Costing You Customers

Seven warning signs your website is quietly turning customers away — and what to do about each one.

7 Signs Your Business Website Is Costing You Customers

Most business owners don't realise their website is a problem until someone tells them. Here's what to check for:

1. It takes more than 3 seconds to load. Every extra second of load time increases the chance a visitor leaves before the page even finishes loading.

2. It's not readable on a phone. Over 80% of web traffic in South Africa comes from mobile devices. If your site isn't built mobile-first, most visitors are already having a bad experience.

3. There's no clear phone number or WhatsApp button. If someone has to hunt for how to contact you, they'll usually just leave and go to a competitor instead.

4. The design looks dated. Fonts from 2012, stock photos everyone's seen, cluttered layouts — these all quietly signal "this business isn't keeping up."

5. There's no clear call-to-action. A homepage without an obvious "next step" (Call Now, Get a Quote, Book Now) leaves visitors unsure what to do.

6. It hasn't been updated in over a year. Old pricing, discontinued services, or outdated testimonials erode trust fast.

7. It doesn't show up on Google. If you search your own business name and can't find your site on page one, you're invisible to new customers searching for what you offer.

If two or more of these sound familiar, your website isn't doing its job. Let's fix that.
